𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱
i am saying this not because i haven't found one. i somehow have found mine, but because we are not as passionate about our 'passion' as they show in movies or books. the reality is the stark opposite.
here's the truth - yes, discovering your passion at 25 or 30 sucks. wouldn't it be great if somebody told you the day you were born - hey chap, your passion in life is to play football, start right now so you have an advantage over the rest. voila, you just saved yourself from a shitload of hassle and uncertainty.
if you think that knowing your passion early in life would have made things easier, you might not be thinking clearly. because that's seriously not how it works.
passion is a result of nurture, exposure to the real world, frustration about how life works, and the need to not become another cog in the wheel. it's a collective outcome of so many things that happen to us as we grow.
𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱:
discovering your passion does not change your life overnight rather it gets harder
passion doesn't automatically lead to you leaving everything behind and blindly pursuing it ( this is only the ideal case scenario, an exception not the rule )
if you do not have a community of people whom you can fall back on or look onto, your passion will die with mediocrity, because you can never challenge yourself enough as much as others can
in the modern world being passionate isn't enough, you need to build a set of values and skills to cushion your passion. if you don't build this latticework, people who have it will be preferred over you
so many people squander their time thinking about the perfect life they will live once they find their passion, leaving them unable to function productively in the present
𝘀𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗱𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀:
it's not wrong to be passionate about something, but don't think that finding your passion will help you override reality. reality doesn't change, only the way you look at it will
your passion is like a higher purpose, something that supersedes material stuff like money, fame, and power ( yes it's true )
treat passion like an escape, whenever the real world feels heavy
nobody can tell you what your passion is, so look for the signs. for example when you do stuff that makes you lose the sense of time. you never know how minutes change into hours while doing things you are passionate about, the importance of external validation minimizes, and you become auto-didactic and self-motivated to push through ( playing video games doesn't count)
passion is a byproduct of nurturing our curiosity
being passionate about something doesn't mean you are talented at it since birth, being passionate means you are willing to strive to be good at it, no matter how bad you might be in the beginning
